Deaf Squad

"What would happen if Trent Reznor and The Bug got trapped in a studio together?

What if My Bloody Valentine made beats for Grime MC’s?

What if Run The Jewels and Death Grips met up for sake fuelled karaoke?

What if Chris Issak got really into subbass?

Equal parts lush atmosphere, bone crushing bass, jagged distortion and crystalline beauty.

Those are some of the ways to describe the sounds of Deaf Squad"

BLack and RED EP:

Deaf Squad are a production duo hailing from the heart of London, made up of RZR (f.k.a Dr. Colossus, head of Destroy Oh Boy) and Memari Man (formerly of Kings Of The City). Together, the two old friends forge a soundscape that is intense and innovative, drawing on a rich tapestry of influences including industrial, post-rock, dub, and grime.

Inspired by the raw power of The Bug and the sonic complexity of Nine Inch Nails, Deaf Squad draw on their contrasting musical backgrounds of live rock and jungle / breakcore to create a powerful blend that is dark and exhilarating. Their music is a visceral, gut-punch of an experience, and their forthcoming debut EP “Black and Red” is a testament to their years of musical exploration and collaboration. Each track is a journey through uncharted auditory territories, reflecting the duo's deep-seated affinity for experimental sound design and their commitment to producing music that resonates on both an emotional and physical level.

“Money Maniac” is primed for hands-in-the-air moments, with dub synths that meet jagged industrial percussion. “Glitch” shows off their more ethereal tendencies, whilst maintaining a powerful sense of bass-weight and dread. On “Collateral Damage”, a pulsating drone gives way to stadium-sized post-rock guitar melodies, and closing track “Ready” is pensive and reflective, whilst continuing their foreboding audio tapestry.

They’re joined on this journey by a number of vocalists, each bringing a unique quality to the tracks: grime legend and Grammy winner Flowdan, dancehall royalty Warrior Queen, and Thryn, a musician and songwriter currently based in Cambridge who draws on folk traditions for their melancholic, choral-inspired harmonies.

Long Bio

Deaf Squad consists of RZR (f.k.a. Dr. Colossus, former head Destroy Oh Boy) and Memari Man (former Kings Of The City).

This duo thrives on the polarity of their musical origins, a contrast that serves as the heartbeat of their creative output. Their individual threads of experience weave to create a unique tapestry, something that sounds like nothing else.

Memari Man emerged from the trenches of live rock music, with the raw energy of punk honed through countless live performances. A reveller of the strings, this artist has made himself home across the frets and acquired a discerning taste for melodies.

On the flip side, RZR began playing breakcore in clubs and squat raves when he was below legal drinking age and has been producing about as long. His expertise lies in the intricate realms of jungle, garage and the jagged pulse of breakcore. Armed with a computer and an unyielding passion for pushing sonic boundaries and subbass, he bangs out genre bending tracks like most people drink coffee.

The duo have been friends since they were teenagers and grew up in London together. First bonding over traded metal and punk downloads then later raised amidst the soundscape of London during the transformative era of grime and dubstep, they absorbed the city's essence and channelled it into their compositions. The result is a chemical reaction between disparate elements that forms unique audio compounds

As the Deaf Squad sound matured and the tracks started flowing out they then began to work with vocalists such as Grammy award winner 2024, Flowdan (Best Dance/Electronic Recording) , Kool Keith and Warrior Queen.

The music started stacking up. The unique Deaf Squad sound is established.

They currently have 3 EPs finished and are putting them out this year…
